THE FUTURE
Several
important opportunities and challenges lie before the Pulmonary Research
Group as it seeks to continue to explore aspects of normal lung function
and the response to injury. Future directions will encompass the development
of animal models of pulmonary disease, including asthma and fibrosis.
Epithelial cells are believed to be important in the perpetuation of local
inflammation, or in its resolution, and interact with several inflammatory
cell types. Given the expertise within the Research Group, we are confident
that novel collaborative programs can be developed to explore these fundamental
components of clinical lung biology and impact on disease management and
ultimately cure.
