PRAIRIE PROVINCES STUDY OF ASTHMA MORTALITY
A collaborative study was conducted to investigate risk factors for death from asthma in those aged 5 to 50 in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. In addition, there was an extensive examination of the pathology associated with asthma among those who died from asthma and a sample of those who died from other causes. The data analysis is in its early stages. It is hoped that both the epidemiological and pathological data will provide a clearer picture of those who die from asthma, so that it will be possible to identify and assist those who may be at high risk. The study was funded by the Laboratory Centre for Disease Control, Health Canada.
